The Northeast Cabinet

$1,850.00

Northern ornamentation meets eastern form in this Japanese inspired small wall cabinet with sliding door and trio of drawers.

As mastercraftsman Toshio Odate notes in his excellent treatise, Making Shoji, Japanese woodworkers prefer softwoods, particularly those with subtle, linear grain. Thus, the cabinet body, door frame and drawer walls are crafted from clear vertical grain western red cedar. Clear vertical grain cedar is wholly free of any knots, pitch, or other defects and is sawn perpendicular to the face, providing tightly spaced, near-uniformly linear grain.

The straight cedar grain wraps the cabinet body and frames the bursts of organic energy in the Telemark forms on the door panel and drawer pull recesses.

Drawer dividers and shiplapped rear panels, which echo the trio of drawers, are constructed from another calm softwood, basswood, with delicate bar pulls in hard maple. Finished in super blonde natural shellac to preserve the natural wood tones.

The cabinet can be wall-mounted via a French cleat or placed on a desk for accessible, pleasing office organization.

Due to natural variations in grain pattern and brush strokes, no two cabinets are exactly alike.

Hand made to order by a solo craftsman. Please expect up to 4-6 weeks to ship.

15.25” wide x 6.5” high x 6.5” deep.
