Quartersawn white oak, already rich in tannins, is wiped in quebracho bark tea to apply further tannins before oxidizing to a deep, saturated black with a custom mixture of vinegar and steel wool. The interior of the white oak walls are kept natural to contribute interior warmth. The top of the box displays a shop-sawn 3/32” thick veneer of birdseye maple whose energy hints at what’s to be revealed inside.
Hinged in top-quality, American-made brass, the interior of the lid is hand painted in a traditional, asymmetrical Telemark scroll form to add pleasure to the rituals of storing and retrieving jewelry or other precious items.
Three layers of display trays in hard maple and white oak lift in and out with a pleasing piston fit.
Due to natural variations in grain pattern and brush strokes, no two boxes are exactly alike.
